I've done something that I had to do...

After looking at my bills and debts, and falling behind... I made the decision to withdraw money from my RRSP's to get some things paid off and get back on track. I withdrew 5000 yesterday, and here's where the money went... 500 to taxes... 500 to pay back the temporary overdraft. 2500 to pay off a cc that will be canceled in a few days, 600 towards my income tax debt ( I still owe about 200), paid some other outstanding bills and I still have some cash in the bank ( just about 160). It was a drastic measure, but I feel a 1000 times better having made the decision.

I don't do well with Credit cards... I know this, and I've kicked myself in the ass more than once lately. My cards are all either cut up, or not activated... My goal is to have the next CC paid off by October, 2016, plus I'm on target to have a third paid off by then...  I'll have made signifanct gains by then.

I know not everyone will agree with what I've done, but I had to make the choice, either fall further behind and declare bankruptcy in a year or two or take responsibility and get shit cleared now.  I've had a few friends declare bankruptcy on the past few months ( one installed  a new fence, deck, hot tub and shed last year knowing that they were going to declare bankruptcy this year),  and I want to pay back what I owe....

Other than this mess, which is now cleared... Life is good. I've lost 8 lbs since August, and i"m in the best physical shape I've ever been in. My mind is clear, my heart is happy and I'll continue to grow and flourish. Here's to even better days ahead my friends.

I've never withdrawn from RRSP before. How much will the withdrawl tax be?

Good for you for thinking things through and making choices to get things balanced again.

Jolie I'll end up owing some more to income tac, probably 500 or so. short term pain for long term gain... I've already paid 500 in taxes, and it depends on your tax bracket. I'm at the bottom of a high tax bracket, so I'm guessing the extra 500...

Withdrawal tax increases the more you take out. its 10% for $5000. I dont blame you one bit for attacking your debt the way you did - you are already reaping the rewards by feeling so relieved! Though I'm sure the lovely gentleman can take some credit for how great you're feeling ;)
