What I was doing 17 years ago today
Just about this time 17 years ago today, I was in the hospital pacing up and down the halls of the maternity ward, waiting to give to birth to my DD. I can remember quite vividly at one point during the day thinking " I've got to push this baby out", and reality set in... I was going to be responsible for this little baby for the rest of my life. My labour was not intense, it was rather slow and drawn out, but when things started happening it was all over in 45 minutes. I remember looking at the clock, and the nurse saying your finally 5cms, and my mother saying to the nurse" if she's any thing like me, the baby will be here in about an hour or so". 15 minutes later I was in the delivery room and DD was born 30 minutes later.
I was in awe and scared too. But as I soon found out, it was the best thing that ever happened to me! I often refer to her as my kick in the pants.
When I watch her now, I'm so proud. She is wise beyond her years, she's care about not only her immediate world, but what's happening globally too. She's articulate and isn't afraid to speak up for the little guy. She is not perfect, ( we still have the ongoing battle with her finishing her school work for example), but none of us are.
When people think of single parents, too often we think of the negative. Together we've beaten the odds.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DD! I LOVE YOU!
