Sunday

I spent 6.12 on chips and candy today. I made the trifle for dessert supper last night. It was very good. Roast beef, and the trimmings, plus a crab dip and a hot cheese and bacon dip. Dessert was apple pie, chocolate trifle, no bake cheese cake, plus cherry squares and mocha balls.

M0cha balls are pound cake or sponge cake cut in to squares, dipped in icing and rolled in coconut. They are best eaten straight out of the freezer...My poor mother when we were kids she also had to make these twice because we'd eat the first batch. She also would invite kids in the neighborhood and they'd bring their own cake and coconut and she'd make pink, green, yellow and chocolate icing and we'd roll for long time. My childhood friends still remember sitting in our kitchen eating bits of pound cakes and licking icing and coconut off our fingers when they got too sticky...

We really like our food in my family. There are a few things that have to be made at Christmas. Must have for Christmas includes chocolate balls ( all of us), mocha balls, meat pies (me), scotch cakes, fruit cake (my sisters and their spouses), and gum drop cake (my brother). The other must have's for Christmas are Ganong's chicken bones ( they are so good) and a Terry's Chocolate orange (my DD). I'll have to post on this...
