I made my own laundry soap, and over spent on groceries !

Yes, I over spent today at the grocery store. I spent 74.04! 22.91 was for pet food, so I spent 51.13 for us. This weeks menu will be:
Monday - Tuna casserole (canned tuna, pasta, cream of mushroom soup, topped with left over stove top stuffing and raw veggies)
Tuesday - DD's on her own, I'm working...
Wednesday - Sausage and Lentil soup with herb and cheese biscuits (both recipes from Feb 2006 edition of Harrowsmith Country Life)
Thursday - Breakfast for supper -pancakes, eggs, bacon(maybe)
Friday - chicken with rice and veggies
Saturday - lunch spaghetti with Italian sausage.

Making my own laundry soap. Long story short, I've been mulling over making my own for a while. I was running out this week and decided why not this week-end?

Ingredients were borax, baking soda, castillo soap and an essential oil ( I chose lemon). It took me about 20 minutes to make it ( I had to grate the soap), and I put it glass jars. It smells like heaven!

Total expenses for the soap:
02 glass jars to store it in =6.72 ( made in Italy)
01 metal scoop ( its a coffee scoop and the right amount 2 TBSP)
borax -5.69
baking soda -3.99
lemon oil -6.67
soap-2.25

I just did the math and it should last for 117 loads of laundry. It will cost me 16 cents/load of laundry. (14 cups (3500 ml @30 ml /load = 116.67 loads). I didn't include the price of the jars or scoop b/c it was a 1 time expense.

I'll let you all know how it works!

Very interesting! What is this castillo soap? When I made mine I used sunlight laundry soap... it worked well.

I can't wait to hear how you like it... I should get back to making some too! I loved how it gelled (my recipe was a bit different than yours)

The price can't be beat!
