My quasi low spend January

While I'm not officially taking part in the no/low spend challenge this month, I am being more careful in my spending. I had no spend days on the 3, 4, 6, 7 so far. I shopped yesterday and today, I bought groceries to a tune of 24.22 ( carrots, 4 boxes frozen veggies, frozen blueberries, yogurt, caesar salad, milk, cream, and something else that I can't remember). I also bought a bag of chips- 1.25 and a coffee this morning 1.75. I also received a Xmas gift, a twenty dollar gift card to Tim's. That made my heart sing...

I made two pots of soup yesterday, which made enough for 15 lunches. I figured that it cost me about 10.00 total, which is less than 1.00/ lunch. Add in some fruit, yogurt, crackers and some cheese or peanut butter and I'll still be spending less than 5.00/day on lunch. Way cheaper than going out for lunch and better for my waist line.

I do have to come up with a plan for the afternoon snack attack. Today I had some pumpkin, sunflower and raisins, but half an hour later I ate a little bag of chips. Maybe a yogurt or pudding alongside the other things?

Oh and my weight yesterday - 171.6 pounds. I haven't weighted this much in about 5 years or long...

Good stuff!! For an afternoon snack I'd add in some protein.. Chunk of cheese, tree nuts of some kind, Greek yogurt (very high in protein).

Carla, I love tree nuts but I'm allergic to them... I like the greek yogurt idea...

Protein bars of some sort? That would be a hard one for me as I do not really snack, if I do I usually go for grapes or something. Sounds like your just being more careful in your spending is making a difference, way to go!

Sam,
You gotta love no-spend days.
I'm not sure what you can eat/snack on to cut out the cravings for chips, which is my weakness. I have bought Chester's cheese popcorn which you can eat 5 cups at only 280 calories. I also like to microwave popcorn in a brown paper bag and then add my own flavorings which is really cheap.

That afternoon time is the toughest - I just want to eat EVERYTHING! I agree with Carla - include some protein as it satisfies and lasts a while before you're hungry again. I buy 0% fat yogurts at only 35 calories each and eat 2 or 3 - really helps take the edge off with no guilt!
